Abstract
Purpose: To analyze the long-term result of strut iliac tricortical allograft for interbody fusion with pedicle screw fixation.

Materials and Methods: Thirty-one patients(58 segments) who underwent interbody fusion using strut iliac tricortical allograft with posterior instrumentation and could be followed for at least 5 years were included in this study. Mean age at surgery was 61¡¾11 years(range; 34-84 years) and the average follow-up period was 80¡¾10 months(range; 60-94 months). This study analyzed out bony union, collapse of strut iliac tricortical allograft, loosening of internal fixation and loss of correction.

Result: Among them, the 50 segments(86.2%) were fused at the last follow-up. The mean duration for bony union between the graft material and host bone was 7.2 months in 10 segments(20.0%) at 4 months after operation, 17 segment (34.0%) at 6 months, 20 segments(40.0%) at 9 months, and 3 segments(6.0%) at 1 year, respectivey.

Conclusion: The final outcome was good as 86% of bony union, by using of the strut iliac tricortical allograft for interbody fusion. However, there was a significantly increased risk of graft collapse in the patients who underwent forceful sagittal correction. The strut iliac tricortical allograft should be selectively used to facilitate better bony union.
